Nancy Haas, RN, BSN, MPA and Cleveland Grays Board Member, will give a presentation on Nurses of the Civil War.
Female Civil War Nurses defied societal norms to meet a need for the care of wounded and dying soldiers. In the 1860’s women did not dare care for unrelated men or work outside the home without risk to their and their families’ reputations. Yet thousands of women served nurses in the new Army Nursing Corp or as volunteers and left their homes and risked their own health to care for the wounded and ill. The Civil War was the birth of U.S. Nursing.
This lecture is free and open to members of Grays Armory as well as the public.
The Unwritten History Series is made possible by a grant from Cuyahoga Arts and Culture.
